Perspective. It is easy in our culture of convenience and comfort to lose perspective. The 24 hour news cycle and non-stop train of social media often leads us to believe that we live in a world full of only hate and destruction. We focus on small things that we can’t control, and forget the simple blessings that are right in front of us.
Oftentimes it takes a shocking or traumatic event to snap us back to reality. Other times we happen upon an incredible story that reminds us of the boundless potential of the human spirit. This podcast episode is one of those stories.
John grew up in a war ravaged western African country. Shortly after losing his father to civil conflict, his mother found a way to help John and his brother escape to safety in the United States. Arriving in Philadelphia with little more than the clothes on his back, John and his brother survived and ultimately thrived. John joins us in studio to share his story, which includes anecdotes and lessons on family, service and faith. Part one of a two part series.
Please be patient with us on the first 10 minutes of John’s audio. We had an audio glitch for that segment, which causes his voice to be a bit muted.
